Based in Goring, West Sussex World of Rare Books is the largest seller of vintage used books in Europe. Our used books are primarily sourced from charities around Britain and sold across a variety of platforms, including Amazon, eBay and WorldofRareBooks.com.

 

Our unique and exciting business focusses on vintage books from pre 1970 and therefore attract interest from collectors worldwide and can be quite valuable, an appreciation of classic books or book collecting will be a benefit to working with us but not necessary as full training will be given. We are always looking for keen talent and have full and part time positions available now for the following positions!

 

Rare Book Valuer

 

The principle responsibility is accurate valuation of our vintage books which is achieved through our in-house software. A systematic approach is required in order to achieve the correct number of values per hour and provide the information as accurately as possible. Knowledge of books and collecting of books will be beneficial but not essential as full training as given. Data entry experience will also be useful in this position.

 

Rare Book Logger

 

Principle responsibility is the accurate Listing of vintage books. Logging is completed through our in-house software with a focus being on the accurate description of the book and photography. Attention to detail is key in describing our books which will be over 50 years old. Data entry experience would be beneficial for this position.

 

Ephemera / Collections processor

 

We’re looking for a part time Loggers to join our small team. This target based role will involve researching and valuing rare books and ephemera (pamphlets, old newspapers, diaries, postcards etc) listing them using our in-house software whilst working to targets.  Whilst this role is largely desk-based candidates will be expected to lift and move stock weighing up to 20kg.

 

Vinyl logger

 

This role will involve researching and valuing vintage vinyl records and listing them using our in-house software. While this role is largely desk-based candidates will be expected to lift and move stock weighing up to 20kg. Music knowledge will be a benefit but not necessary as training is given.

 

Warehouse foreman

 

Our Warehouse team are responsible for moving our stock into the warehouse and making sure that the books are stored in the correct place on our racking throughout our warehouses.

 

Each of team works independently and the role is very physical, you will be required to move boxes of up to 20 kg.  Removing excess and unwanted stock from the unit is a key part of the job.

 

Picking operative

 

Our Picking team is responsible for picking the books that our customers have ordered. It is really important that once a book is ordered it gets to the customer as quickly as possible and therefore each person works to a target number of books to pick per hour. Care is required as we also have a duty of care to our customers to ensure these vintage books are handled correctly as some books can be fragile.

 

Each of our Pickers works independently throughout our warehouses picking books from our stock.  Being a Picker is very physical and it does involve working at height some of the time and can involve moving boxes weighing up to 20 kgs.

 

Rare Book pre-sorter

 

Our Pre-Sorter team complete the initial sift of our stock ensuring the correct books go to our valuing team. Key attributes to this job are being able to think quickly and make a judgement based on your training what would not be an acceptable vintage book to of value.

 

Being a pre-sorter is a very physical role which does involve working at speed and will require moving of boxes weighing up to 20 kgs.
